The Crab Skiff Racers
The purpose of the group is to keep the heritage and history of this design alive. The following rules must be applied (there are other rules that also apply):
1. Boats shall be a minimum of 18' in length and not exceed 22'.
2. Beam shall not exceed 24% of length and shall be a minimum of 42".
3. No trim tabs or the like are allowed.
4. Rudders are not required to be traditional and skegs are allowed.
5. The Association shall have the right to waive certain requirements if it is determined that the skiff was built within the spirit of the rules in Smith Island Crab Skiff tradition to the best of the builder's ability.
6. All skiffs comply with USCG safety equipment requirements.
7. Skiffs are equipped with an emergency engine shut off button, a safety lanyard in case the driver is ejected and an engine throttle control that is spring loaded, if the driver releases the throttle the engine immediately goes to idle.
8. All rotating equipment, such as drive shafts, must be equipped with guards.
